INDABA 2013 will be a four day trade event attracting more than 13000 delegates from the travel and tourism-related industries. For two years in a row, INDABA has won the Association of World Travel Awards top honour as Africa’s best travel and tourism show. INDABA 2013 aims to provide a positive INDABA experience for all delegates and there has been a keen focus on improving the strong product mix this year. The show plays an important role in generating business for South Africa’s travel trade, and for providing considerable value for local and international buyers.

INDABA 2013 will be held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Convention Centre in Durban from the 11 to 14 May 2013.

E-WASHA Vehicle Wash Water Recycling

We recognise that South Africa and Namibia is a water-stressed region; and that every business and individual has to play their part in water conservation and protection against water pollution.  We make use of the environmentally-friendly E-WASHA vehicle Wash Water Recycling solution at our Cape Town and Johannesburg branches.

• No chemicals are used in this 100% natural biological process
• 100% of our vehicle wash waste water is recycled
• We save up to 90% of the water used in the vehicle washing process, and top this up by harvesting rainwater at our depot  sites

Curbing Vehicle Emissions Using Euro III Engines

We have an on-going project to install Euro III technology in the engines of our luxury coaches and vehicles.  60 % of fleet has now been completed, and adhere to the 2000 European emission standards for vehicles.  Due to the lack of availability of bio-fuels in South Africa, the Euro III standards are the highest that can be currently reached.

Oil Exchange with the ROSE Foundation

Springbok Atlas Luxury Charter participates in the oil exchange programme of the ROSE Foundation.  ROSE stands for Recycling Oil Saves the Environment, and this non-profit organisation manages the environmentally acceptable collection, storage, recycling and reprocessing of used lubricating oil in South Africa.

Tyre Exchange

In order to reduce our waste, we exchange tyre casings with our supplier for recycling and reprocessing.

CTrack Technology

We make use of energy-saving CTrack technology for the on-going monitoring and management of our fleet.  This technology switches intelligently between Satellite, GPRS and SMS communications in order to achieve constant, cost-effective and energy-efficient real-time tracking of all our vehicles and driver performance.

Green and Safety Ambassadors

To ensure that environmental awareness permeates our operations, we have appointed and trained Green Ambassadors at each of our depots to oversee our green initiatives and integrate them with our Health & Safety protocols.

Reduce Reuse Recycle

Throughout our operations, from office administration to vehicle maintenance, we actively reduce, reuse and recycle waste.

The Imperial and Ukhamba Community Development Trust was established in 2003 by Imperial Holdings to assist impoverished communities in improving the standards of education at their communities’ schools. This is achieved by providing the beneficiary schools with textbooks, reading material, teaching aids, teacher training workshops, sports equipment and excursions.

The Trust is presently concentrating on improving Primary school education as the Trustees believe that if a culture of learning is established in the foundation years, matric results will automatically improve. In addition to the on-going educational support, The Trust has also invested in various capital projects at the beneficiary schools.

This includes the building of administration block and resource centre at Inkululeko Yesizwe Primary; the establishment of play gyms for Foundation Phase learners at Inkululeko Yesizwe, Tshepana and Finetown Primary Schools; the upgrade of Grade R facilities and classrooms at Tshepana Primary and Finetown Primary; the upgrade of desks for Grade 1 learners at Inkululeko Yesizwe and Tshepana; the establishment of soccer fields at Inkululeko Yesizwe and Finetown Primary schools; and the building of a hall, storerooms, kitchen and resource centre at Tshepana Primary schools.

Our National Driver Trainer, Emmanuel Ngesi is passionate about driver training, and he has been in the industry for 10 years. Emmanuel has attained a National Certificate in Professional Driving, as well as various Assessor, Moderator and other relevant SAQA-accredited driver training certificates. His focus is to cater for all the driver training needs, and to help ensure that all the vehicles are driven safely and according to the manufacturers’ specifications.

All Springbok Atlas Luxury Charter’s full- and part-time drivers undergo comprehensive performance management and participate in Emmanuel’s on-going training and assessment programme. This programme starts with the quality of our fleet.  We have carefully selected our types of vehicles for their advanced safety features; and all our new luxury coaches and vehicles offer individual seat belts.  We maintain our 70-strong fleet to the highest of standards by taking full responsibility for the checks, maintenance and servicing of our luxury coaches and vehicles.  We make significant investments to ensure that our fleet is carefully and accurately maintained – from engines to on-board facilities, from technology to tyres.  Our policy is to carry out services well within the manufacturer’s recommendations. Every vehicle undergoes comprehensive pre-departure and overland checks which include steering, tyres and brake tests; and we have round-the-clock technical support teams on stand-by when any vehicle is out on the road.

We carry extensive comprehensive passenger liability insurance cover on all vehicles operated and services arranged by Springbok Atlas Luxury Charter; and each coach and vehicle carries the necessary safety and operating permits required under South African and Namibian Laws.

Local Community Support
Springbok Atlas Charter has depots in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban and Windhoek, and each branch is active in their own community providing transport sponsorship, employee volunteerism and other support.  An example of this is that our Cape Town branch opens its environmentally-friendly E-WASHA bays to the Woodstock Police Station enabling about 10 police vehicles to be washed for free each day using recycled water.
